EYELID LIFT SURGERY | PROCEDURES
THE PROCEDURE OF EYELID SURGERY:
Upper eyelids: A curved incision is made in the upper eyelids in such a way as to remove all the excess skin and when closed it will form a very thin scar at the naturally pleasing upper fold. Through this incision, protruding fat is also removed and hooded eyelids can be corrected. Some other procedures such as limited eyebrow surgery may also be done through this incision.
Lower eyelids: A fine incision is made either just under the eyelashes (transcutaneous) or on the inner side of the lower eyelid (transconjunctival). Through this incision, excess fat is removed. Other procedures such as mid-facelift or other eyelid corrective surgeries may also be done through this incision.
At the end of the procedure, the skin is closed with fine sutures that will be absorbed in 5-6 days. Most people have an excellent recovery, with minimal bruising that can be easily camouflaged with makeup. There will be swelling lasting about seven to ten days, but most people are able to go back to their routines in just a few days.
In some patients, excess lower lid laxity is present and can be corrected by performing an additional procedure called Lateral Canthopexy/Canthoplasty (eyelid tightening procedure) at the same time.
Decreased elasticity of the skin from aging can cause lower eyelids to drop and become filled with fat from the socket of the eye. Gravity and genetics may also cause the upper eyelid to droop, which causes hooding. This often results in an appearance of tiredness and in extreme cases may well result in visual problems. By removing these deposits and folds, the eyes achieve a brighter and more open shape.
BLEPHAROPLASTY is an operation designed to remove the excess of skin and fat of the eyelid, including the folds, under the skin and rejoining to give a more youthful appearance. The result is a less tired-looking eye. This operation may be combined with other procedures in the face such as facelift, brow lift, or neck lift. This may also be combined with other eyelid procedures to correct common problems associated with the eyelids.
At La Belle Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we perform this procedure under local anesthesia with deep sedation on an outpatient basis. The procedure may take about two to three hours depending on the extent of surgery and other procedures involved.
