Soft Tissue Fillers
This has become one of the most common cosmetic surgical non-invasive procedures in USA today.
As we age, the production of two proteins within the skin, called collagen and elastin, decrease . These proteins are what create fullness in the skin. Sun exposure, diet, and smoking also speed up the aging process, making the wrinkles even more prominent. The most commonly treated wrinkles are those around the nose and mouth, known as the nasolabial lines and marionette lines. Soft tissue fillers are also an excellent option for patients wishing to have more full and youthful appearing lips.
There are a multitude of FDA approved soft tissue fillers that can be used to give a more youthful appearance to the skin. These fillers can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, skin depressions and some types of scars. They can also be used to give a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips.
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural component of human skin and is the framework in which skin cells live. There are several hyaluronic acid products available that have various characteristics: Common brand names among soft-tissue fillers are: Belotero®, Restylane®, Juvederm®, Radiesse®, and Sculptra®. These fillers can be used to fill hollow areas of the face, deep wrinkles, Naso-Labial folds, Marionette Lines, Cheeks and Lips. Hyaluronic acid gel does not pose an allergy risk for patients and there is no risk of transmitting animal diseases by injection. The results patients receive from hyaluronic acid products last approximately four to six months.
Prior to the start of treatment our physician will see you in the office for a consultation and evaluation. At this time we will discuss your goals and desires for treatment, and go over any concerns or questions you may have.
The Procedure of Facial Wrinkle Reduction
This non-invasive office procedure has no downtime and takes about 20-30 minutes to perform. The injections are done with the tiniest available needles requiring no anesthetic, even though topical skin anesthetic may be used.
The soft tissue fillers are injected using a fine needle inserted at several points. You may feel a slight stinging or burning as the site is injected; however, most people report the injections to be of only mild discomfort.
You will see results immediately. Most patients resume normal activities following treatment immediately. Slight swelling and redness may occur that generally is not obvious to others. Occasional bruising may occur that may be camouflaged with make up and resolve in about 10 days.
The results of your injections will vary for each individual, as will the length of time it will last. Some patients have reported their treatment lasting a year or longer, while others report a duration of only 3-6 months. Therefore, repeated injections may be necessary. We will discuss with you how to maintain your results with repeated treatment.
The results of injections and the length of time results will last vary by each individual and by the treatment.
Poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra™) is a biodegradable synthetic filler used to replace lost facial fat, giving the face a more youthful appearance. It is currently only FDA approved for treating facial fat loss in patients with HIV. Use on healthy individuals is considered off-label use at present.
Calcium Hydroxyapatite (Radiesse®) is a biocompatible, FDA-approved filler for deep Nasolabial lines. With this treatment, small calcium Microspheres are injected under the skin with a fine needle. The body then forms collagen around the calcium providing a long lasting result. Effects can last up to a year. This filler is a great treatment for nasolabial lines. Radiesse® is not suited to be injected in the lips because it is too firm and does not feel natural.
